The heritage-listed building housing our brewery was purpose built in 1913 as a coal power station. Sir James Joynton, then owner of The Carrington, was far from impressed that hotel guests had no electricity supply, so he simply got on and built his own power station within the grounds.
After decades generating electricity for Blue Mountains’ villages from Mount Victoria to Wentworth Falls, the building and landmark chimney sat idle for many years, remaining relatively unaltered with many original fixtures intact.
Fast forward 100 years or so, and with some hard graft and creative repurposing, the vision of a Katoomba Brewing Co. was realised.
The Katoomba Brewing Co. was established in 2015 just as interest in microbreweries and craft beers started to snowball. Our niche following quickly gained momentum with beer enthusiasts seeking the perfect local brew. Then, COVID.
Our doors reopened in 2022 under the direction of head brewer Kieran Allen. Plans for the not-to-distant future include welcoming visitors to enjoy a unique brewery experience.
For now, our beers are available across The Carrington precinct including The Old City Bank, Champagne Charlie’s Cocktail Bar, and canned 4-packs at Carrington Cellars. So if you are Mountains, follow the chimney and enjoy a beer.
Find Katoomba Brewing Co. varieties in canned 4-packs at The Carrington Cellars & Deli on Parke Street, Katoomba.
