Large Mirage

LARGE MIRAGE are a young Australian rock band with their boots planted firmly in the golden soil of 1970s hard rock but with their eyes fixed on the future. Formed in 2021 by lead vocalist and guitarist Kolya Chan, LARGE MIRAGE has quickly built a reputation for high-voltage live shows and a sound that pairs heavy rock bravado with psychedelic-pop melodies. Think flared jeans, stacked amps, fuzzed out guitars and songs meant to be played loud but warmed up with undeniable ear-candy hooks, rich three-part vocal harmonies and sophisticated songcraft.

Kolya is the band’s central songwriter, writing compositions that balance introspective storytelling with searing guitar work. Blake Rochester’s driving bass, AJ Stanton’s textured keyboards, and Bailey Brown’s dynamic drumming round out a sound that nods to all rock’s greats but without living in their shadow. Despite their relative youth, LARGE MIRAGE have logged serious miles. They’ve sold out headline shows in Sydney and Melbourne and shared bills with artists such as The Screaming Jets, Amyl & The Sniffers, and the Australian Rock Collective. Their versatility has seen them move seamlessly from intimate venues to major festival stages, appearing  at events as varied as Woodford Folk Festival, Lost Paradise, Party In The Paddock, and King Street Summer Crawl. The band’s rising reputation as a powerful, flamboyant, and charismatic live act earned them the opportunity to support AC/DC at two sold-out stadium shows in Sydney, the hometown of both bands.

LARGE MIRAGE have released two EPs to date, A Side to Blame (2023) and Wings of Time (2025). The band produces their own recordings, which aim to capture the energy of their live shows. Real music delivered by real musicians who’d rather play rock than talk about it. LARGE MIRAGE has picked up airplay on Triple M, Rebel FM QLD, ABC Radio, and ABC’s long-running Rage, giving their songs a life beyond the local circuit. Their latest single, ‘Miss Okay’, finds the band mixing mid-’60s Motown energy with suave ’70s psych-pop punch.

LARGE MIRAGE stand at the front of Australia’s new wave of rock. A band unafraid of big riffs, big melodies, and throwback fashion. It’s rock music with a past it respects, a present it’s conquering, and a future it’s kicking open, one flared step at a time.
