Bill Chambers & Kim Cheshire

Friday, 4 August, 2023 at 7:00 pm

These days Bill Chambers and Kim Cheshire probably come under the banner of ‘Alt Country’. The irony in this title is that these fellas are doing nothing alternative to the style of country music they’ve been playing for literally decades.  It’s just that the term ‘Alt Country’ has had to be invented to differentiate the real-deal-original-roots-music that country was, from today’s overproduced radio friendly ‘bubble gum pop’ where the only clue that it’s being passed off as country is that the artist is wearing a hat and there may be a pickup truck in the film clip.

Kim’s came to prominence in Sydney with his legendary band The Danglin’ Bros but he’s been fronting bands since the 60’s. The Danglin’ Bros had pubs overflowing into the streets in the 1980’s, venues often had more patrons dancing on the footpath on hot Sydney summer nights than were inside (back before this was a jailable offence).  Later, in the 90’s, Kim started his band The Wheel and it was around this same time that Bill was busy touring heavily with The Dead Ringer Band.  The band would prove to be the launching pad for both Bill Chamber’s solo career, and also bring huge mainstream success for his daughter Kasey, who Bill still tours with regularly to this day. In fact, Bill will be doing this tour with Kim hot off a national tour with Kasey.

On this 2023 tour the boys will be backed by The Outatowners who are the cream of the Australian Country musician crop. With Rod Mc Cormack and son Jackson, Steve Fearnley and James Gillard, it’d be easier to list who these fellas haven’t backed than attempt to credit everyone they have.  Together they’ll be drawing on a combined back catalogue of original albums spanning 60 years collectively and putting their own slant on a few of their favourite versions of familiar legends. There will be a healthy mix of storytelling singer songwriter ballads, and a very solid dose of good rockin’ and swingin’ tunes for those who want to scratch up the dance floor.  The kinship and connection between Kim, Bill and the hand picked fellas backing them up is evident: these fellas WANNA PLAY and trust me are gonna put on one hell of a show!

Available on the night will be a back catalogue of both artists albums, including Kim’s recent 2023 golden guitar award winning album, and the brand spanking Danglin’ Bros Live Album – not available in stores
